On his return he found the package containing the fine old English watch and seal. He has put them in the hands of friends of his who are searching for the owner. Arnoldus Vanderhorst accidently shot himself some years ago. He was the nephew of R.W. Vanderhorst, the original owner of the watch. Northrop does not know whether he left issue. Scope and Contents In answer to Clarke's letter of Mar. 10, Northrop knows of nothing to add to the life of Bishop Patrick Neeson Lynch given after his death in the Charleston paper which he sent to Clarke. There are some pages in Dr. J.J. O'Connell' s book, which it was thought Lynch prepared himself. Archbishop John McCloskey of New York was his bosom friend and might give Clarke some information. Northrop sends McMaster $3 as the subscription fee for the Freeman's Journal and a donation of $2 to the Carmelite Convent in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is not sure that McMaster collects for that institution but sends the money anyway. Scope and Contents Joseph Norwalk a priest in the diocese of Lietmeriz in Bohemia, a Roman doctor of theology, assistant in the parish of Teplitz, asks that he be received into the diocese of Cincinnati. Born in 1832, he was ordained in 1855, and in 1863 he went to Rome where he received the doctorate the following year. He has nourished a desire to go to America for a long time and has had a firm determination since he heard of the death of Father Hammer whom he had heard in Rome. Before he can get permission...

She has a bas-relief of Archbishop John Baptist Prucell which she is anxious to sell. Her father, C. E. Nourse, oldest banker in Cincinnati at the time of his death, and her mother were Purcell's first converts. the bas-relief was given to them by Sister Anthony of the Good Samaritan Hospital. There is another one like it in the Cincinnati Art Museum given to it by Reuben Springer. She thinks it is worth about $25. :: XI-1-e A.L.S 3pp. 12mo.
