Scope and Contents Purcell's letter of the 27th was late in reaching Murphy because it was sent to Camp Douglas. He gave Purcell's enclosed ten dollars to an officer to give to Mr. Cairon's credit and encloses a receipt given to prisoners. Cairon's wants are extravagant so that is why Murphy sent his schedule to Purcell. He will see Cairon for Purcell and urge him to take the oath of allegiance. Murphy is sorry to have missed seeing Onahan. He wonders whether the program of the (Columbian) Catholic Congress is definitely arranged, especially in regard to the sale of his paper on "Free Catholic High Schools." He also asks for a dozen entrance cards for relatives and friends. His paper is almost read. Murphy dined with Archbishop (John) Ireland, and the Apostolic delegate (Archbishop Francis Satolli) in St. Paul. The Archbishop expects great success for the Congress.
