He writes to ask how Seton, knows that in 1841 Father John Raffeiner built a church at Macopin . It was Father Donohue who built the church in 1830 and Father French of New York was delegated to come and bless it. Raffeiner did live in the church and it was to provide a room possibly for himself that gave rise to the statement that he built the church. He is about to enter the St. Louis Law School, and not being a graduate of any college, he needs a certificate from the President of Notre Dame, showing what courses he pursued there. It may be that the records of the university were destroyed in the fire, but he trusts the professors will remember enough.
