He retains part of it for correcting some errors, such as 10 boxes of tea for Mrs. Parsons instead of 10 pounds. He likes what Blanc told him about Father Julian Benoit. He thinks they ought to try every means to keep the best priests in America. He will talk to Benoit and if he persists in wanting to return to France, Hailandière will tell him what Blanc offers. But he does...

 Item
Identifier: CANO V-4-l
Scope and Contents Hailandière received Blanc's letter of the last of October only a few days ago. He also wrote Blanc a few days ago in regard to Father Francis M. Masquelet saying that he had not sent him. His intention was not to give a bad impression of Masquelet nor to give the idea that his needs were not real. He wished only to let Blanc see that Hailandière was faithful to what Blanc had asked - not to send a collector. However he promised to let Father Stanislaus Buteux visit Blanc. He will tell how...

Masquelet to make any collections and if he changed in his case it was only...

 Item
Identifier: CANO V-4-k
Scope and Contents Hailandière received the 45 ordos; he has begun to say the Masses. Blanc congratulated him on getting rid of Father James O'Meara but alas, he is back with letters, he says, from the Archbishop and the Bishops of New York and Boston. He has begun again the sacrilegious exercise of his ministry. Several bishops have talked to him in vain; they are French and wish to destroy the Irish. Blanc ought to send Father Auguste Jeanjean to help Hailandière. He regrets that several priests have left....

He hopes this will merit him permission for another more in need than Masquelet. Father John? Lefranc has written that he has decided to come to them; Hailandière will try to make the best of it. :: V-4-l A.L.S. French 2pp. 4to.

Hailandière, Bishop Celestin de la, Vincennes, Indiana, to Bishop Anthony Blanc, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1846 March 6

 Item
Identifier: CANO V-5-e
Scope and Contents It was only if someone failed to send it from France, that Hailandiere would ask Blanc to send a barrel of red wine and two of white. However, since Blanc is so willing Hailandière would be obliged if he would. He would also like a hamper of olive oil and some sugar which will bring his expenditures up to $100 which he will send with Father Auguste Martin . Blanc sees priests of Hailandière's diocese come and go; he does not send them. He finds the price of the orders not too dear. P.S. He...
