Blu-ray discs

 Subject
Subject Source: Art & Architecture Thesaurus
Scope Note: Digital optical discs formatted to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. Discs in this format offer more than five times the storage capacity of previous DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. The name Blu-ray comes from the fact that the laser beam which reads the data from Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs is blue, instead of the red beam used in DVDs and CDs.
