Content Description This collection consists of five scrapbooks compiled by Jay L. "Biffy" Lee. The bulk of the scrapbooks recount Lee's career as a football coach at the University of Buffalo in 1929-30. Materials in the scrapboook also document his long career selling life insurnace for Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance company, Lee's other athletic and business interests, and biographical information about him. Scope and Contents This collection documents the activities of the National Ideal Benefit Society (NIBS), an African American insurance cooperative headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. It also contains related papers of NIBS founder A.W. Holmes.
