Biographical / Historical
Tristram Edgar "Tris" Speaker (1888–1958) was a major league baseball player (1907-1928). He played most of his career as an outfielder for the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians. He served a player-manager for Cleveland from 1919-1926. He abruptly resigned as manager after the 1926 season when he and Ty Cobb faced accusations of fixing a game in 1919. Major league baseball later cleared both players of wrongdoing. Speaker was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.
