Cristina Peri Rossi Papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of materials forming a record of Cristina Peri Rossi's personal and professional career. Included are drafts of Peri Rossi's fiction and poetry, primarily unpublished; manuscripts and notebooks of Peri Rossi's writings; and clippings of her nonfiction wors from newspapers and magazines. There is also professional and personal correspondence, personal photographs, and academic works on Peri Rossi's writings, such as theses and dissertations. The collection also includes audio/visual recordings in the form of cassette tapes, VHS tapes, compact discs, and digital versatile discs.

Biographical / Historical
Cristina Peri Rossi was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1941 but was exiled to Spain in the early 1970s, as Uruguay came under control of a military regime. Peri Rossi has written five novels, ten short story collections, four books of essays, and many newspaper articles. Many of her works allegorize the political violence in Uruguay in the 1970s and 1980s.

This collection is arranged into eight series: I. Writings; II. Unpublished Writings; III. Correspondence (Restricted); IV. Notebooks; V. Printed Materials; VI. Audio/Visual Materials; VII. Photographs; and VIII. Subject Files. Series I consists of three subseries and is arranged as follows: i. Fiction, arranged chronologically; ii. Poetry, arranged chronologically; and iii. Nonfiction, arranged alphabetically. Series II, IV, and VIII are unarranged. Series V consists of three subseries and is arranged as follows: i. Clippings, arranged chronologically; ii. Theses, Dissertations, Academic Work, and Subject Files, unarranged; and iii. Programs, Announcements, Cards, Invitations and Posters, unarranged. Series VI is arranged by format into four subseries: i. Cassettes; ii. VHS Tapes; iii. CDs; and iv. DVDs. Series VII is arranged chronologically.
