Rusudana Nikolaevna Nikoladze Illustrated Memoir, circa 1960s
Scope and Contents
It appears that this untitled volume was begun by RNN as an illustrated journal describing her interest in theater and literature. Specifically, the memoir focuses on the visit of theater actors, brothers Robert Lvovich Adelgeim (1860-1934) and Rafail Lvovich Adelgeim (1861-1938) to Tiflis and Kutaisi in 1902. The brothers Adelgeim were European-acclaimed Russian-Jewish dramatic actors who developed their own acting school. They graduated from a Viennese conservatory and staged performances in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and throughout Russia. The Adelgeim repertoire included Othello, King Lear, The Merchant of Venice, and other classical Shakespearian plays. Rusudana describes the stage performances of the Adelgeim brothers, as well as her emotional and intellectual reactions to the actors. Some passages were inserted from earlier journals as evidenced by the occasional double pagination.
