Scope and Contents
RNN numbers the leaves as 160 through 253. Some leaves are partially cut out.The notebook entitled "Notebook III. Summer 1914"(Leto 1914 goda,Tetrad III)continues the description of Rusudana's journey from Western Europe to Russia. The text is written in Russian with occasional passages in Georgian. Dated entries range from September 4/17, 1914 when Rusudana was on a boat passing the Greek islands to October 17, 1914, the day of her arrival in Didi Dzhikhaishi (Georgia). The entries range from 500 to 2500 words. The diary focuses on Rusudana's excursions to and descriptions of the cities of Smyrna and Istanbul, the passage through the Dardanelles, an encounter with the German cruiser "Geben," and arrival in Odessa. At this point Rusudana parted with her husband Mikhail Polievktov and continued her trip to her final destination of Didi Dzikhaishi (Georgia) on a train through Iuzovka (Donetsk) where she stopped to meet with her brother Georgii Nikoladze. Folder includes an envelope with French newspaper clippings.
