Biographical / Historical

The Partido Colorado, one of the traditional parties of Uruguay, was founded in Montevideo in 1836 by Fructuoso Rivera. The party's aim was to unite moderate, liberal, and social democratic groups. Partido Colorado ishistorically the most elected party in uruguayan history, holding office from 1865 to 1959, before returning in 1966 and in 1984 after the end of the military dictatorship.
