Seth Williams, Samuel White, "Warrant for the arrest of William Akens", 1734 July 16
Scope and Contents
A document written and signed by Seth Williams, Bristol County justice of the peace, directing the sheriff to arrest William Akens and bring him before a justice on suspicion of entering the Taunton home of Samuel Williams, Jr., and stealing a spoon. The warrant also directs the sheriff to summon Williams to prosecute his complaint, as well as Noah Williams and Samuel White, to give evidence. White's endorsement, as deputy sheriff, appears on the reverse, where an addendum in Seth Williams's hand indicates that because the case exceeds his jurisdiction as a single justice of the peace, Williams has committed Akens to custody, presumably pending the next sitting of the Bristol County Court of General Sessions.
