Bydgoska Prowokacja, 1981 March 19
Scope and Contents
Text refers to police brutality against Solidarity activists in Bydgoszcz following the talks between the representatives of Solidarity and the Local National Council (WRN; Wojedwodzka Rada Narodowa). The event, in which 25 persons were hurt and 4 are hospitalized, came to be known as the Bydgoszcz provocation. It became a turning point for the Solidarity movement, with the union successfully bargaining with the government to have the strikes and the violence covered by the state media, which tended not to cover anti-government protests.
