Papers from his education at St. Gregory Seminary (1948-1961), the Collegio Propaganda Fide (1953-1961), Xavier University in Cincinnati, and the University of Cincinnati; notebooks, scrapbooks, memorabilia, essays, dissertations, mimeographed circulars and booklets, printed material, correspondence, and diaries (1961, 1966, 1986-2005: closed until 50 years after his death). Also Tax returns (1961-1996), checkbook registers, financial notebooks, and mass intention books.

Background

Born 12 August 1934 in Dayton, Ohio, Daniel E. Pilarczyk attended Saint Gregory Seminary in Cincinnati, earned five degrees from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, an M.A. in classics from Xavier University, Cincinnati, and a Ph.D. in classics from the University of Cincinnati. After his ordination he served as Assistant Chancellor for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, taught on the faculty of the Athenaeum of Ohio, and became Vice-President of the Athenaeum and rector of Saint Gregory Seminary. He also served as a judge on the archdiocesan tribunal, as Director of Educational Services for the archdiocese, as Auxiliary Bishop, Vicar General, and eventually Archbishop of Cincinnati (1982-2009). He also served as vice president (1986-1989) and president (1989-1992) of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.
