Background

A graduate of Yale University (1983) with a Ph.D. from Princeton University (1989), Olivia Remie Constable taught at Columbia University until 1995. She served as a history professor at the University of Notre Dame, 1995-2014, and as director of Notre Dame's Medieval Institute, 2009-2014. Author of Trade and Traders in Muslim Spain: The Commercial Realignment of the Iberian Peninsula 900-1500, Medieval Iberia: Readings from Christian, Muslim, and Jewish Sources and Housing the Stranger in the Mediterranean World: Lodging, Trade, and Travel in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages.
