Background
The National Association for Lay Ministry was founded in the hope of restoring the tradition of lay ministry to the Church: "to promote the universal call to ministry, to foster research and development within the field of lay ministry, to support those involved int he work of lay ministry," and "to promote the profession of lay ministry within the Church" (1983 By-Laws).
