Background

During the time documented by these papers, Sisters for Christian Community (SFCC) published this description:

"We are contemporary Christian women gathering together to manifest our commitment to Christ within currently-to-be-explored religious life styles. We envision such new patterns to be necessary for the survival of religous life into the 21st century.

"Each Sister of our community creates the content of her own Covenant-commitment according to her own vocational charisms."

Established in 1970, SFCC had regions in "New England, Mid-Atlantic, South East, Great Lakes, Mid-West, South, Pacific Northwest, Pacific Southwest, Europe, Africa, and Asia." Their current website (www.sfccinternational.org) identifies regions in Africa, North America, Central America, Europe, India, and the Pacific, with more localities identified in the United States than anywhere else.
