Background

Thomas A. Kelly was born 9 May 1901 in Chicago. He joined the Congregation of Holy Cross, making perpetual profession of vows in 1925. He was ordained a priest in 1928. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and master's and doctoral degtrees from the Catholic University of America. He taught classics and Latin at the University of Notre Dame, 1935-1954, and spent the rest of his career at the University of Portland. He died 18 March 1976 in Portland, Oregon.
