Joseph A. Thie Notebooks
Scope and Content
Identified on the cover of each notebook as: "Historical Memoranda collected by Rev. Joseph A. Thie, at one time pastor of St. Paul's Parish, Tell City, Indiana". Thirty-nine notebooks roughly 7" x 8", with alphabetically arranged tabs bearing names of states. The notes tend to provide some scrap of information about a Catholic church, priest, or bishop, with few citations of sources. For example: "Buffalo, Jan 1890. St. Adelbert's Parish. This young parish has serious trouble over change of priests. The successor had to have police production in ch. (Gave a Polish priest $300 to go to Rome + fight the Bp - didn't go but went to Pa. There 3 months later arrested by the givers of the 300.00 etc. no end)".
