Book manuscript (purple spirit-duplicator copy of typewritten manuscript): Vacuum, Gaseous and Solid State Electronics / by Edward Arthur Coomes, Professor of Physics, University of Notre Dame, 1954, "to be published by Addison-Wesley Press, Inc." However no copies appear in WorldCat, so it seems likely that Addison-Wesley did not publish the book after all.

Background

Edward Arthur Coomes wrote a Notre Dame bachelor's thesis in Electrical Engineering called The Theory of Electrical Resonance (1931), and a master's thesis called An Analytical Study of Gamma Function Developments (1933). He earned a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1936. His mimeographed "Lecture Notes for Physics 213s -- Electron Tubes, given by Edward A. Coomes. Summer 1941" are available in the Hesburgh Library General Collection. He served as a graduate assistant in mathematics at Notre Dame (1931-1933) and as a physics teacher (1933-1992). He also served on the University Council (1941-1942). He became an emeritus professor in the mid 1970s. He died in 1992.
