Professor of English at Notre Dame, 1954-1988, Joseph M. Duffy, Jr., had a B.A. from Columbia Univesity and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago; he was an American Academy in Rome Scholar, a Fulbright Scholar, and winner in 1971 of the Danforth Foundation's E. Harris Harbison Gifted Teaching Award.
