Background

In their early years in the middle of the nineteenth century, the three Congregations of Holy Cross (sisters, brothers, and priests), which founded and ran the University of Notre Dame, all answered to the same superiors. Although they later became three distinct congregations, each with its own administration, they remain associated with one another.
