Microfilm containing records of the Catholic Press Association, 1911-1950; consisting of reports, minutes, and proceedings of annual conventions and board meetings; with clippings and correspondence concerning the Catholic press in the United States; and the official publication of the CPA, known successively as In Vain, CPA Bulletin, and The Catholic Journalist, 1940-1950.

Eleven seven-inch and two five-inch reel-to-reel audio tapes containing talks from the Seventh World Congress of the Catholic Press, May 1965; Catholic Press Association Officers Meeting, 9 July 1962; Fr. Nevins' radio announcements, 1958-1959; and Pope Pius XII's Message to the Catholic Press Association, 14 May 1959; and Pope Pius XII's Address for 47th Annual Convention of the Catholic Press Association of the U.S., 16 May 1957 (33 1/3 rpm phonograph record).

Also printed material and photographs, 1988-present; consisting of books, photographs, promotional material, clippings, and issues of magazines, newspapers, and journals, all winners of the annual CPA awards for Catholic journalism; historical publications; Catholic Press Directory; and annual convention proceedings and programs.

Background

The CPA operated a news service, works to obtain national advertising and increase circulation for its members, supported lectures to facilitate professional improvements in Catholic publications, and cooperated with the Catholic hierarchy in campaigns for decent literature.
