Nevin, Jo(h)n J.: Jersey City, N(ew) J(ersey) to Monsignor Robert Seton: (Jersey City, New Jersey), 1895 June 5
Scope and Contents
Mr. Farrell, the clerk to the Board of City Hall Commissioners, was temporarily in charge of their office and Nevin and the mayor were in an important conference when Seton called with his distinguished friend and guest. Farrell complied so strictly with his instructions as to make it that Seton was treated with unintentional discourtesy. The mayor would have extended a semi-official welcome to this city to his honored guest. The occurrence was unfortunate but entirely unintentional and the mayor desires Seton to communicate his regrets and best wishes to Seton's reverend friend.
