Borgess, Caspar H., Bishop of Detroit, Detroit, Michigan, to Archbishop John Baptist Purcell, of Cincinnati, Ohio, 1876 March 30
Scope and Contents
Upon Purcell's advice, he has written to Cardinal Franchi. Father C.L. DeCeuninck had sent Purcell a duplicate of the letter addressed to Borgess. He is not willing to resign and he is not likely to abide by the first paragraph of his letter. Father B.A. Quinn is bent on giving trouble and scandal if he can get an excuse for it. Every bad priest will commit himself in time, so Borgess will be obliged to bide his time in Quinn's case. He heard of the ailments of Archbishop James R. Bayley of Baltimore, but has heard nothing of the proposed Coadjutor. He congratulates Purcell's brother Father Edward Purcell on his 69 birthday. :: II-5-f A.L.S. 1p. 12mo.
