He thanks Purcell for his letter and for the invitation to get the books when in Cincinnati. He names several books he has read, and in which he was very interested. He has learned at least the views of the Roman Catholic Church and will not misrepresent or conceal them. Nearly all of the books deal with ecclesiastical questions judged from different points of view.
