Lamy, John B., Bishop of Santa Fe, Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Archbishop John Baptist Purcell, of Cincinnati, Ohio, 1871 January 10
Scope and Contents
He thanks Purcell for the kindness shown to his nephew Anthony upon his ordination. He hopes Anthony will make a good missionary. The Sisters of Charity are all well. Besides their orphans, they also keep a school for small boys. The Sisters of Loretto probably will face a lawsuit over a legacy of $20,000 left them by a Mexican nun who died last summer. Her relatives have determined to contest her will. Two of their best lawyers have agreed to prosecute the suit, requiring nothing in fees in case the suit is decided against them. He has authorized the sisters to bring the suit. He asks to be remembered to Father Edward Purcell. :: II-5-e A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
