Domenec, Michael Bishop of Pittsburg, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, to Archbishop John Baptist Purcell, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1870 November 8
Scope and Contents
Domenec recently received a letter from one of the French sisters who came to Cincinnati from Havre, asking to open an academy in his diocese. Replying that he had no academy vacant, but that he would inquire as to the possible success of such an establishment, Domenec informed them that he would send additional information later. He has been informed that Pittsburg would support an academy, but that this was not the time of the year to start it. This also he wrote to the sisters, but to his surprise, they came immediately, not waiting for further information. Such conduct and some other things that have been observed worry Domenec and he asks Purcell's confidential opinion and advice as to the method of procedure, since he cannot find a suitable place for them now and the opening of the academy now would be rather foolish.
