O'Brien, Father Frank A., Kalamazoo, Michigan to James F. Edwards, Notre Dame, Indiana, 1908 December 11

The silver cross and chain was given by Bishop Joseph Rosati to Bishop John Lefevre de Cheverus at the time of his consecration. His early photographs show that he wore this cross. It remained in the Diocesan treasury at Detroit until 1877 when Bishop Casper Henry Borgess gave it to O'Brien. The chain was longer, but a watch chain was taken from it and its whereabouts is now unknown. Bishop Lefevre said that the cross belonged to a saintly Bishop. :: XI-2-k L.S.(Typed) 1p.
