Shea, John Gilmary, Elizabeth, New Jersey, to James F. Edwards, Notre Dame, Indiana, 1889 January 24
Scope and Contents
He is sorry to hear that Edwards' health is not of the best. Shea is laid up with a fractured knee cap, but is trying to carry on his work. The agreement Edwards sent, Shea had a copy in Archbishop Ambrose Marechal's hand, but the original in Archbishop John Carroll's hand with erasures is extremely curious and important. Most written about Bishop Patrick Kelly's career at Norfold Virginia is incorrect. Shea feels that the publication of his life of Carroll will bring out material that will make revision necessary. He gave offense to some of the Germans. The origin of the German church in Philadelphia was queer. Shea will copy the Carroll-Molynoux agreement and return it. :: XI-1-g A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
