Carrier, C.S.C., Father Joseph C. St. Laurent College,, Montreal, Canada, to James F. Edwards, Notre Dame, Indiana, 1885 November 22
Scope and Contents
Carrier had over 700 letters from bishops and archbishops, but many are now at the bottom of the gulf of Mexico, others are in the hands of a friend at Notre Dame, or were burned in the great fire of 1879. Edwards could get letters of Bishop Joseph Cretin of St. Paul from Bishop John Ireland . Father Louis De Cailly of Fort Madison, Iowa could give Edwards autographs of Bishop Mathias Loras of Dubuque. Carrier will endeavor to get a set of portraits of the Canadian bishops. Things are plodding in a humble way at St. Laurent. He cannot say if he will ever return to Notre Dame. P.S. He encloses a picture of Bishop Ignatius Bourget and of the Apostolic Commissioner of Canada, Monseigneur Smeulders. :: XI-1-c A.L.S. 2pp. 8vo.
