Stoffel, C.S.C., Father Nicholas, Notre Dame, Indiana, to James F. Edwards, Toledo, Ohio, 1878 July 6
Scope and Contents
He sent Edwards 35 copies of the Scholastic. The catalogue is progressing rapidly. Edwards may apply for any number that he may need. Stoffel has executed all Edwards' commissions and even went to see Mother Ascension . He has heretofore been greatly mistaken in the character of that person. There is some misunderstanding about the picture of Father Alexis Granger, C.S.C. provincial. Stoffel understood that Luigi Gregori wanted the photograph first, and that he would come down only when the picture was nearly finished. Edwards will do well to send Gregori a portrait of Father Granger, as it would be hard to get Father Granger to town and besides he would not take off his ugly beard for a photo. Father John O'Connell, a rival to Father Walsh, if not to Brother Raymond, C.S.C., has returned from Watertown. It is hoped the retreat will take place this month. :: XI-1-b A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
