Scope and Contents

Miss Conway deplores a "Women's Day" and the distinction between men and women in the intellectual order. Eliza Allen Starr or Miss E(leanor) C. Donnelly could have written good papers on general topics. She asks that her name be taken off the programme. This has to be done for the sake of consistancy. She has always been against discrimination of women in the intellectual field, and cannot associate herself with a programme which does not give woman her full due. She wonders if Miss Starr started this "Woman's Day" business. George Parsons Lathrop agrees with her, as does her editor, Mr. (James Jeffrey) Roche, and Elizabeth Cronyn, as Onahan can see in regard to the latter by the enclosure. She refutes Onahan's argument for the necessity of keeping a natural sequence among the subjects of the programme, showing that it can be changed to admit women with men quite feasibly. She dined last evening with Cardinal James Gibbons at Mr. Harson's house. Upon saying farewell, the Cardinal had reminded her to be consistent, which she applies to the present case. Has Onahan any Boston men among the speakers? She shall follow his advice about names until she hears further. Regards to Mrs. Onahan and Mollie. (No enclosure.)
