Mannix, Mary E., San Diego, California, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1890 August 2
Scope and Contents
Mannix is sending the remainder of the article on German Marian poetry with two other pieces, one done by her sister. Next week they are all going to Pacific Beach for a rest. Mannix and her husband went to Los Angeles last Saturday. They stopped at St. Vincent's which is under charge of the Lazarist fathers. They called on Bishop Francis Mora and saw Father Joachim Adam. They went up to Pasadena, a spot settled by wealthy Easterners who came there for their health. The priest of whom Mannix wrote to Hudson has been suspended by the Bishop. It appears there was good reason for this judging from the interviews now being published. The priest who gave the retreat at the convent said the want of piety in California can be explained by the existence of no real home life. Maurice Francis Egan is felicitous in his choice of subjects for "Chats with Good Listeners". :: X-3-l A.L.S. 8pp. 12mo.
