Scope and Contents
The papers Hudson mailed to Paris were forwarded by Mr. ? Huffer . Edwards visited and studied the vast collections of the British Museum and the South Kensington Museum. Through the courtesy of Father Francis Gasquet, Edwards had access to the valuable papers and manuscripts preserved for the use of students. Edwards had the honor of an interview with Henry Cardinal Manning . The Cardinal wished to know all about the University of Notre Dame, He expressed his astonishment on learning the size of the place, the student body and the faculty. Manning offered Edwards free access to the Westminster Archives and gave cards of introduction to several ecclesiastics of position. He spoke freely about the injustice of England in her relations with the Irish. Edwards visited Lulworth Castle and its chapel where Archbishop John Carroll was consecrated father of the American episcopacy. The Welds received him most cordially. :: X-3-j A.L.S. 16mo. 4pp.
