Keane, Bishop John J., Rome, Italy, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1888 December 20
Scope and Contents
Keane thanks Hudson for the clippings. Hudson is asked to present Keane's thanks to the priest who made admirable use of their conversation for his article that appeared in Amerika. He little suspected that his admiration for the German language would be used to refute the charge that the Bishops had been planning the extirpation of that tongue from among German-American Catholics. Keane had a long talk with Camillus Cardinal Mazzella about the rules of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in pursuance of the views expressed to him by Father-General Edward Sorin, C.S.C.. Mazzella stated that their rule would be confirmed, but as proof of confidence in Sorin they would leave him in his relation to them during his life. They could not arrange for his successor. :: X-3-i A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
