White, Rhoda E., Dublin, Ireland, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1886 December 7

 Item — Box: CHUD 10
Identifier: CHUD X-3-c

Scope and Contents

Father Bernard O'Reilly is kept busy by Mr. Webster in America getting his book ready for publication. A rival publisher in Boston is attempting to palm off his book entitled "Life and Letters of Leo XIII" as the official edition and advertising that it has commendatory letters from Pope Leo XIII, Edward Cardinal Howard and Cardinal Manning. From Howard they learned that Garrison the publisher was using 1878 letters by these dignitaries to a photographer. When the book was shown to Lucido Cardinal Parocchi by Father William H.B. Deasy, Vice Rector of the American College, Parocchi denounced it as a shabby trick from the pen of an American priest at the American College, Roman comment on the book will appear in letters from Roman correspondents in the Baltimore Mirror and the Boston Pilot. O'Reilly's Life of Pope Leo XIII will be published in the spring. :: X-3-c A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
