Dorsey, Anna Hanson, Washington, District of Columbia, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1886
Scope and Contents
Dorsey wishes to enlist Hudson's aid for her grandson, Louis Mohun, who is to spend the next two years at Notre Dame. When he was at that age which requires home influence to urge on a boy's studies, his father died, followed by extreme illness of his mother for two years. Father J.A. Doonan, S.J., a friend of his parents, invited him to Georgetown College of which he was just elected President. It was unfortunate for Louis, who was put to studying Latin and Greek, although only scarcely acquainted with the rudiments of his own language. Of course he was an utter failure and his mother withdrew him. He is bright, with keen powers of observation. Under proper influence he will come out all right. He is straightforward, truthful and practical in his religion, and Dorsey gives an instance of the military character of his piety. She tells Hudson this so that those who are to instruct Louis know why he is so backward in everything. Dorsey will mail more manuscript. Louie leaves on Sunday for Notre Dame. :: X-3-b A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
