Dallas, Alexander I., San Antonio, Florida, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1885 April 24
Scope and Contents
Dallas has never been so disappointed in any man as he has been in Edmund F. Dunne . When he first arrived at San Antonio, he found the colony bitter against Dunne for keeping his lands out of the market and forcing newcomers to take up railroad lands. Dallas purchased his land from Lewis Reilly, former editor of the Mirror, and boarded his family with Mr. Mullan when he brought them here in January, 1884. Against Mullan, Dunne has bitter animosity. In time, Dallas determined to leave the colony, but Dunne begged him to remain and gave him a lot. Bishop John Moore of St. Augustine sent Father Stenzel to establish a parish and build a school. Dunne treated Stenzel with disrespect and prevented Stenzel from building a school. Stenzel was relieved by Moore at his own request and Father J. F. O'Boyle was sent to replace him. In the dispute which has grown up between Dunne and Dallas, O'Royle has sided with Dunne and Dallas writes Hudson for advice. :: X-2-o A.L.S. 8pp. 12mo.
