Scope and Contents

After reading Hudson's letter Dorsey wondered if something she had said about Christian Reid had betrayed jealousy of her success. This was not intended. Dorsey's role as a story writer is unassailable. Yet she has found that theological arguments introduced into her stories prevent success. The clergy do not approve of it. Reid's story now in progress is clever. Dorsey is sorry to see anything of bitterness and condemnation against "our separated brethren" as Bishop John England termed those outside the Church. Eliza Allen Starr 's "Pilgrims and Shrines" made Dorsey feel as though she were in Rome. She was glad to see the favorable notices that appeared in the English Press of Starr's work. The book "Atlantis" by Ignatius Donnelly provided interesting reading. Dorsey makes a detailed comparison between the religious rites of the Greeks and the Zuni Indians. According to Frank Cushing the Zuni are not like the American aborigine, their faces, customs and habits show them to be a higher type, while their language has many similarities to the Greek. Dorsey will send an account of Pope Leo XIII's chalice. There is talk of a "Catholic University of America " being established in Washington. Dorsey feels that the site selected is not good because it is too near the nation's capital and the ignorant and bigot ed will charge that the Pope is preparing to take possession of the country. She feels that President Grover Cleveland, who is to be inaugurated shortly, will not allow himself to be manipulated by politicians, but will firmly uphold the Civil Service Law. :: X-2-o A.L.S. 14pp. 12mo.
