Neale, Father J. P., St. Inigos, Maryland, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1885 January 15
Scope and Contents
Neale was busy throughout the Christmas Season. He feels people know little about priests as passengers do about the engineer on a boat. Neale thanks Hudson for the notice given the books "Short Points to Mental Prayer" and "Catholic Belief". The latter work Neale used to settle many questions. Neale thinks Robert Ingersoll would make an excellent convert if he could be brought to examine Catholic doctrine. He contends that Ingersoll is a wit, a poet, an orator and a noble spirited man, no worse than any other would be with his early misleadings. Ingersoll is convinced that his exaggerating mistatements about the Catholic Church have no practical result. The old hymn book that Hudson misses would recall a thousand associates. Neale is pleased to learn that the song, "On This Day O Beautiful Mother" will be sung at the grand celebration of the 300th year of the Sodalities at Boston College. :: X-2-o A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
