MacDonnell, Sister M. Magdalene, Lisbon, Portugal, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1884 May 19
Scope and Contents
Sister acknowledges receipt of the Ave Marias and notifies Hudson that she has finished writing the "Wasp". "Glimpses of the Supernatural" is attractive. She asked Bishop John Joseph Keane if he had seen cases of possession such as the one Hudson mentions in his book. Keane and Father Spence have gone to Ireland. Sister relates details about a witchcraft case that occurred in one of her order's convents in the last century. There is an incorrect passage in the book "The Festival of Holy Rosary at the Tomb of St. Dominic" which Hudson sent her. The Dominicans do not put St. Francis in their confiteor. Sister sends the Tantum Ergo or Haydn's Austrian National Hymn. She can acquaint Patriarch Joseph Neto with Hudson's wishes. He and Bishop Cajetan Aloise-Masella will be appointed Cardinals at the next Consistory. Father Guidi's book will soon be out in pamphlet form. Sister has a sketch on Thomas a Kempis about half ready. She was annoyed to hear that Anna Hanson Dorsey is so old; what a vigourous old lady to be able to write so well. Sister gave Miss Dalton Hudson's message. :: X-2-m A.L.S. 16pp. 12mo.
