Scope and Contents

The death of their rector, Father Louis E. Hestolt stunned Edes. Edes always turned to him for advice. They did not like the article on him in the Ave Maria by Daniel Paul . She hopes he received the Gerarchia for 1884 she sent. Because of Monsignor Ciccolini? it came before the March Consistory when all the changes are made. There has been a general whisking around of cardinals, bishops and prelates. His Holiness Leo XIII seems possessed of the desire of change. It is rumored that the present Secretary of Propaganda is to be changed. The Pope is not infallible in these cases so one may lament some of them especially when they cause real damage. Edes knows that these changes are made without consulting the Cardinals. He made a mess of it in sending Father Paolo Fortini as Pro Vicar Apostolic to Queensland. They now have ordered his return by telegram. Queensland is under Propaganda but the first news they had of the nomination was an order from the Vatican. It was said to be the order of Cardinal Giuseppe Pecci . Edes intended to say daily a special Hail Mary that he Fortini might make a fool of himself and be recalled. Edes supposes Hudson received the post card relative to the books by Princess Wittgenstein and Professor Samurruim?. Many of Wittgenstein's works are on the Index. She tried to further the election of the Pope by popular vote and was of the German anti-infallibility family. Hudson will receive a copy of Our Lady of Good Counsel by Dr. Dillon of Australia who is now in Rome. Edes asks Hudson to give the book a notice as soon as possible as Mrs. Eckel Harper has concocted a History of Our Lady of Good Counsel. She claims that Dr. Dillon has copied from her. Edes asks if she sent Hudson a copy of the Petit Manuel de la Sainte Face. It seems hopeless relative to the letter of Luther to his mother. Father Carlo Passaglia is not married. The only woman who was ever mixed up with him died the other day. :: X-2-m A.L. Incomplete 8pp. 12mo. 11
