Starr, Eliza Allen, Chicago, Illinois, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1884 May 11
Scope and Contents
Father General paid his subscription. It is probable that Mother Lucretia, C.S.C. , did write acknowledge receipt of "Patron Saints". When Starr sees the short notices that sometimes come out on books she wonders how authors have courage to publish at all. Starr sent a copy of "Patron Saints" to the Novitiate as well as to St. Mary's. Mother Augusta, C.S.C. , had no need to borrow commended the book warmly. No one knew, save Archbishop Michael Augustine Corrigan that Edes did it. She has been so unwell as to be good for little save the weekly letter to the "Brooklyn Citizen". She sent to the "Dublin Review" a paper which was not accepted. Herbert Cardinal Vaughan said that the present editor, Father James Moynes, was in no wise given to saints and their devotion. :: X-4-b T.L.S. 2pp. 4to.
