Rohan, Miss , Norfolk, Virginia, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1880 October 12
Scope and Contents
On Oct. 5 the writer's sister, Miss Mary Rohan, daughter of Capt. P McCarrick, ended a very holy life with a happy death. She was annointed ten days before her death. On Rosary Sunday she asked Father O'Keefe to put the Ave Maria on her heart hoping it would ease the pain. The morning prior to her death she asked to be read a story from the Ave Maria. Miss Rohan always kept in the presence of God and baptized many children who would have died outside of the church. She instructed hundreds of children and was a source of edification to the whole city. She had always wanted to enter a religious community but her health would not allow it. She rallied many times when death was thought to be near and the departing prayers were recited several times. All knew when she died as the light left her face. Her obituary is being sent to Hudson. Hudson should notice her death in the Ave Maria as she always loved that publication. :: X-2-g A.L.Unsigned 5pp. 12mo.
