Taylor, Sister Mary Magdalene, London, England, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C ., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1879 June 23
Scope and Contents
The news of the fire of Notre Dame has made her very sad. It is a mystery that there should be such a loss in these times of need for Catholic education. Hudson should deduct a dollar from his next remittance to her. There is an error in the Ave Maria of June 7 regarding a story called "Little Lulia" by "Cousin Maurice". This is taken verbatum from a book written by her sister, Mrs. Dean, and published 20 years ago. Her sister would be happy to know her work was used but to take what she has written and call it by "Cousin Maurice" is not fair. She is sure Hudson knew nothing of this. "An Easter Story" which was in the same number was taken from the same book, but the credit was not given to anyone for writing it. She wants to secure the copyright in England of "Stonehighs of Stonehigh" as a London publisher will print it. She asks Hudson to send the proof sheets. She is going to write a series of children's stories called "Angel Series" which could be published in the Ave Maria if Hudson desires. :: X-2-e A.L.S. 5pp. 16 mo.
