McCaffery, Father Bernard, Dubuque, Iowa, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 December 14

 Item — Box: CHUD 2
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d

Scope and Contents

Being in debt to such an extent that it is necessary to beg fifty or sixty thousand dollars if their abbey, New Malleray, is to be saved, McCaffery seeks the aid of Hudson. He wants a copy of the enclosed letter containing a plea for financial assistance to be inserted in each copy of the Ave Maria, with the exception of those addressed to residents of Dubuque County, Bishops, and priests, of an issue printed during the Christmas season. If Hudson accepts this plan and states the number of letters required McCaffary will send them to him. :: X-2-d A.L.S. 2 pp. 32mo
