Howe, Rose B. F., Chesterton, Indiana, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 July 31
Scope and Contents
She is too sick to write, but she wishes to tell him that they received a very sad letter from Father Aegidius who sent in his resignation to the Bishop because of pains in his chest causing him to be too weak to attend to his duties. She begged Aegidius to come and visit them or go to Hudson's place. Frances Howe sent to Chicago and saw Miss Eliza Allen Starr who is going to write to Hudson about getting Bishop Silas M. Chatard's pastoral for the Ave Maria. Howe has heard it, and thinks it superb, but all of the priests did not read it to their congregations. She begs Hudson to read it for himself. She is badly affected with tooth-aches and nervousness, and is run down and is afraid to have the tooth extracted because of her weakened system. She explains where they receive their mail now. She does not expect an answer to her letter. P.S. The Inter-ocean will have an article on her sister and her book as well as a review by Maurice F. Egan in McGee's Weekly. :: X-2-d A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo.
