Dorsey, Anna H.anson, Washington, D.C., to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 April 15

 Item — Box: CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d

Scope and Contents

She reminds Hudson that when he and Father Edward Sorin asked her to write something for the Ave Maria he told her not to hurry with her article since a story being published in the Ave Maria at that time would have to be completed before her work could be used. Thus, having completed the promised sketch she did not feel compelled to write to Hudson concerning it; instead she was merely waiting for him to decide when it would be needed so that she could sent it. The material for the enclosed story was taken from the "Life of Frederick Ozanam," a wonderful book about one of the grandest Christian men of this or any other century. She suggests that the Notre Dame library obtain a copy of this biography. As compensation for this manuscript she asks fifty dollars. This price, if the Ave Maria has ten thousand subscribers as Father Edward Sorin told Pope Leo, is surely not exorbitant. She objects to being paid per page unless the standard rate prevails. If they can make a satisfactory wage agreement she will gladly write for the Ave Maria as long as her strength will permit. This haggling over money matters is very disagreeable to her but circumstances force her to do it. She asks if Father Sorin is still in Rome for if he is she wants him to perform a little task for her while there. :: X-2-d A.L.S. 3pp. 8vo.
