Howe, Rose B.F., Chesterton, Indiana, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1876 October 18

 Item — Box: CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d

Scope and Contents

She is writing this letter for her sister, Frances Howe . They would like to have the official status of Archbishop Manning clarified. When they were in England he was always referred to as Archbishop of Canterbury but in Frances' story the Ave Maria substituted the title of Archbishop of Westminster for the title she always prefixed him with. Frances wants her uncertainty cleared up so that she may avoid making any errors which would give an air of unreliability to her story. The concluding portion of the manuscript was sent several days ago. Rose enjoyed reading "The Battle of Connemara" in the Ave Maria. An unexpected call to Chicago delayed Rose in writing her own manuscript but she will soon have another part ready to send. She asks if Hudson could discover if a certain student at St. Mary's has paid her bill. If she has it would encourage Rose's mother to try to collect a debt this student's family owes to her. :: X-2-d A.L.S. 8pp. 12mo.
